Foundation
Peter Bopp Stiftung was set up by Swiss entrepreneur Peter Bopp as a grant-making foundation to support research in the domains of natural science and technology. The aim of the foundation is to strengthen Switzerland's domestic value added and its readiness for the future. To that end, Peter Bopp Stiftung funds projects in areas that create sustainable leverage for the economy and society. The focus is on applied research projects conducted at Swiss universities or renowned Swiss research institutions. The foundation has an annual funding budget of CHF 1.5 million.
Founder
An engineer by training and long-standing CEO of G. BOPP + Co. AG, Peter Bopp not only founded the Peter Bopp Stiftung für Forschung und Technik but was also instrumental in shaping it. His profound interest in research and technology, particularly in natural science, defined the foundation’s purpose and direction.
In keeping with the founder’s entrepreneurial spirit and his passion for innovation, Peter Bopp Stiftung is focused on supporting innovative projects that preserve and strengthen Switzerland's readiness for the future.
Peter Bopp passed away in 2023. Having no descendants, he left his shares in G. BOPP + Co. AG to the foundation. Founded in 1881, G. BOPP + Co. AG is today a market leader for manufacturing high-precision woven wire meshes. The company has production sites in Zurich, Wolfhalden and Sigmaringendorf as well as branch offices across the globe.
Board of Trustees
Peter Bopp Stiftung is led by an interdisciplinary Board of Trustees with expertise in the fields of law, governance, funding and management.
Expert Committees
The evaluation and selection process of projects submitted to Peter Bopp Stiftung is supported by external experts and an internal funding committee. This ensures professional, transparent and independent assessments.
Foundation Office
The office of Peter Bopp Stiftung is headed by Beate Eckhardt, Eckhardt Consulting GmbH. The foundation’s legal secretariat is managed by Jeannette Heiniger, Heiniger Advokatur.
